Description
This class is closed to further registration.

This workshop is a one-week process of improv and discovery, giving you the tools you'll need to write a successful script. Each student will improvisescenatios as devised by others in the class. Improvisation will be recorded so that you can take them home and write a scene based on what you've done in class. At the end of the week there will be a public reading of written scenes before an invited audience.

You do not need to be an accomplished writer, but some improv experience is helpful.

This will be co-taught with Ron West and Catherine Butterfield.

RON WEST has directed and appeared in many shows for the Second City in Chicago, Toronto, Detroit, Cleveland, and LA. He is a co-author of the musical The People Vs. Friar Laurence. He won Joseph Jefferson awards for his direction of Curious George Goes to War and his adaptation of The Comedy of Errors for Chicago Shakespeare. As an actor he recurred on the NBC series Third Rock from the Sun and was a frequent guest on Whose Line is it Anyway? He?s that guy in the Cheerios commercial whose wife wants him to go to the gym.

CATHERINE BUTTERFIELD is the author of nine published plays including Joined at the Head which played at the Manhattan Theatre Club, won her the NY Newsday Oppenheimer Award for playwriting and was nominated for a Drama Desk award, and The Sleeper which won the Kaufman and Hart award for best new American comedy. As an actress she has played extensively in New York theatre, on national tour and regionally. TV writing credits include Grimm, Ghost Whisperer, FAME LA and Party of Five. Her newest play, inspired by an improv workshop like this one, is entitled It Has To Be You.
